I know the fires are still raging and I can't imagine how the brave firefighters keep going. We have had high temperatures in California, but for those fighting the fires, it has to be unbearable, and they are carrying an enormous load of equipment over difficult terrain.
I was out of town and out of touch for several days and just got home yesterday. The news broadcasts have not been focused on the fires like they had been, so I am assuming that they are finally getting them contained and/or under control. I hope so. At one point we had so many fires surrounding us (we were never in any danger in our area - just very smoky) that we could hardly breathe and some people were wearing masks.
I bought my husband a telescope for his birthday June 9th, and he had always wanted one. Unfortunately, there has been so much smoke that last night was the first time he could even try to see anything, and viewing conditions still aren't perfect. But I was excited to at least be able to see the sun (without it being red or orange) and last night I actually could see the moon and some stars.
If anyone reading this has suffered losses in the fires, my prayers go out to you. If any of you have family or friends fighting the fires, I hope they know how much we all appreciate them. Without them, none of our homes would be safe.
