Susan, that is amazing.  Our neighbor shared one of their trees with us last year and again this year another of their trees kept us prisoner in our home until BGE removed the tree from our road.

We had a major rain and windstorm with 3+ inches of rain in less than 24 hours and up to 48 mph wind gusts.  We had prepared by pruning our trees as needed and stashing patio furniture, etc.  One of our neighbors did not.  He has had a leaning tree for a couple of years, and this storm aparently was too much for it.  It came down with a crash and instead of falling on his house, it fell over the fence and onto our solar panels.

I suppose that is good, but we'll have to get the tree gone and then test the panels to see if they leak (hope not, as we just had to buy several new ones).  Then we'll have to figure out what to do about the fence, which is now only about 2 1/2 feet tall instead of 6 feet.

Hmmm, that's interesting...Now would his insurance have to pay for it or is it your responsibility?  These types of situations always confuse me...

Generous neighbors! I hope their insurance company is just as generous. Hopefully no one is hurt.

No one was hurt on our side of the fence.  We haven't had a chance to talk to them yet, but from the way the tree fell, I don't think much of it is even on their side.  We have an acre, and our pool solar panels are way back at the farthest corner of our property, where we seldom even go.

"Neighbors shared their tree" ... I guess that kind of gives a different meaning to Fair Oaks!

Hi Susan:

Thank goodness, no one was hurt.

That had to be some storm!

I has continued to rain off and on today - sometimes quite hard - and one of our area shopping centers flooded and the roof collapsed in an appliance store.  Must have been sitting water accumulated from yeesterdays rain that got just a little too much today.  We never have this kind of weather in October!

We've had some awful rains around here the last few weeks but without the wind (knock on wood). If my neighbors' tree fell it would take out our whole block.

Here's to getting the damage fixed without recourse to an attorney!

I hope things work out for you, Susan.  That is a shame that the tree had to land on those solar panels.  Hopefully their insurance will cover it in full.  Best wishes for some sunshine!

Sorry about the tree your neighbor "shared" with you.  The insurance issue is a good question.  If the tree was in their yard and fell into your yard it would be their responsibility - right?  Maybe not?  Let us know how it works out.

Susan - It was quite a storm wasn't it.  I've been in the Greater Sacramento area all my life, and it was the most amazing October storm I've seen since 1962.
